YouTube Updates Gambling Policies to Boost Viewer Protection

YouTube has revealed updates to its policies regarding online gambling content, which will come into effect on March 19, 2025.

These changes are designed to enhance protection for viewers, especially younger audiences, by implementing stricter regulations on gambling-related content and its promotion.

Under the updated policies, YouTube will prohibit any methods of directing viewers to online gambling sites or apps that are not certified by Google. This includes links, embedded URLs, logos, verbal mentions, and visual displays.

Moreover, content that guarantees gambling returns may be removed, even if the promoted site has Google approval.

While the new policy does not completely ban online gambling content, YouTube has introduced age restrictions for certain gambling-related material. Content showcasing online casinos and gambling apps—except for online sports betting and live gambling representations—will be unavailable to users who are not signed in or are under 18 years old.

It is important to note that YouTube recognizes these changes might affect creators focused on casino gaming and gambling content, but emphasizes the necessity of these measures for maintaining a safe and responsible platform.

This announcement is part of Google’s broader initiative to regulate gambling-related content and advertising. For instance, last month, Google also announced revisions to its ‘Gambling and Games’ advertising policy, which will take effect in April. The updated policy introduces country-specific guidelines and enforces stricter compliance with certification requirements for gambling advertisers.
