On Tuesday, Meta officially launched Edits, its new video-creation app similar to CapCut. All of Edits’ features will be free. Meta first revealed it was developing Edits in January, shortly after ByteDance’s CapCut was temporarily pulled from U.S. app stores due to the TikTok ban. Although CapCut has since returned, TikTok’s long-term presence in the U.S. remains unclear, allowing Meta to fill the gap if CapCut ever becomes unavailable again.

You should note one key difference between Edits and CapCut: Edits lets you export videos without a watermark. In contrast, you need CapCut Pro to remove watermarks from your exports. Also, Edits do not limit creators to making videos on Instagram or Facebook. You can create videos for “any platform,” including TikTok and YouTube reels.
With Edits, you can replace video backgrounds using the green screen feature, and the “Timeline” tool helps you arrange and tweak clips. You can also add auto-generated captions and music from Instagram’s library.
Here’s a cool part: Once you’ve created your masterpiece, you can share it directly to Instagram or Facebook. If you want to post it on TikTok or YouTube, you can easily export the video.
At launch, Instagram head Adam Mosseri hinted that future versions may introduce paid options. Soon, creators will be able to collaborate with their peers and brands to get feedback on their drafts. Meta also plans to release more fonts, text animations, transitions, voice effects, filters, sound effects, and music options.
The App is now available globally on iOS and Android
