The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) has officially opened applications for bookmaker licenses, giving betting operators and entrepreneurs a chance to enter the province’s regulated gambling market.
The Request for Proposals (RFP) has been published. It outlines the application process and requirements for obtaining a license. Interested parties can download the full document from the MER website or collect a physical copy from their offices.

To apply, carefully review the RFP to understand the requirements, and prepare a strong proposal highlighting your business plan and compliance measures. If you have questions about the application process, you must submit them by 29 May 2025. The MER will provide answers and announce the final deadline for proposal submissions.
This initiative is part of the regulator’s efforts to create a fair, transparent, and well-regulated betting industry in Mpumalanga while promoting responsible gambling and supporting local businesses.
This is a key opportunity for betting operators to establish a legal presence in Mpumalanga’s growing gambling market. For more information, visit the MER website or contact their office directly.
