Sunbet Launches in Botswana

In a landmark development for Botswana’s gaming industry, the Gambling Authority of Botswana has officially granted a betting license to Sunbet, marking a transformative moment for the nation’s gambling landscape. This announcement signifies the introduction of the country’s inaugural online betting platform.

The ceremonial launch of Sunbet Botswana took place at Zebra Mall in Block 8, heralding a new chapter in digital gambling for the nation. With the launch of this online service, stakeholders anticipate a boost in economic growth, heightened digital innovation, and the creation of numerous job opportunities across the country.

This milestone aligns with the Gambling Authority’s ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the local gambling sector. Back in August 2024, the Authority awarded licenses to ten companies, including Sunbet Botswana, as part of a comprehensive strategy to promote responsible gambling practices and align the industry with national economic objectives. The licensing process, initiated in 2023, attracted an impressive 32 applications for various gambling licenses, highlighting the sector’s promising growth trajectory.

The expansion brought forth by Sunbet is estimated to create over 2,000 direct jobs, with a strong emphasis on empowering women, youth, and individuals with disabilities. This initiative not only aims to diversify Botswana’s economy but also reinforces the Gambling Authority’s dedication to establishing a compliant and responsible gambling environment in the country.
